Clad in high visibility jackets and hard hats, the workmen are pictured drilling into some… cake. They look like shots from a remake of Honey I Shrunk The Kids or the fantasy novel the Borrowers. But these brain-teasing images are the proud work of a photographer who creates his own miniature scenes every day.
French photographer Vincent Bousserez creates the amazing pictures of miniscule plastic people carrying out day-to-day activities on ordinary objects – that are much larger.
The intriguing selection shows the tiny folk washing windows – or watch faces – driving a quad bike through the green carpet and shaving a man’s face with a lawnmower.
Other images in the collection show the inch-high people ice skating in a candle, workmen drilling into a piece of soft cheese and a tourist in swim trunks wading across a bottle top.
Vincent, from Paris, came up with the ‘Plastic Life’ series following a trip to a miniature model shop four years ago.
‘It started that day,’ said the 36-year-old. ‘That day I saw miniature trains, houses, trees and I was immediately captured by these little people.
‘I stared at them thinking, I should choose one and shoot him in different places, in different situations. And I did.’
Vincent carries the mini characters around with him at all times so he can take a shot when an idea springs to mind.
The self-taught photographer added: ‘I take them on holiday, I take them everywhere. I could be anywhere and see stuff around me and the inspiration just comes naturally. I am like a child! It is really spontaneous and natural and based on humour.
‘It is kind of a game actually. I find it quite easy.
‘I don’t think too much or elaborate too deep. I prefer to let my imagination go naturally, and when a joke scene comes to mind I don’t hesitate, I don’t wait. I organise my stuff, compose my still life and make it real.’
Once he has an idea, Vincent spends 20 to 30 minutes capturing it on camera.
His collection of 80 photographs have been exhibited in three shows in Paris and received rave reviews in the arts world.
He said: ‘For me it is more than a hobby because I would love to live off it. I really want to live from my art but for now I still have my other job.’
Although his background is in advertising, Vincent’s passion is photography, painting and drawing. He has spent time around the world developing his ‘third eye’.
I’ve seen some of these pictures around but never knew it was the work of this guy. Absolutely amazing.
Really Nice and Creative Photography awesome
