Hachiko was a real dog,he belonged to a Tokyo University professor named Eisaburo Ueno in the 1920’s.
Hachiko was the quintessential example of the spirit that embodies man’s best friend. He would see professor Ueno to the station every morning, and trot out to wait for him as he came home at night.
When the professor died, his wife moved out of Tokyo. She gave Hachiko to some relatives who lived near the station, but he wouldn’t stay with them. Every time he had a chance, he would dash away to Tokyo station to wait for his master.
Years later, one of professor Ueno’s former students heard about Hachiko’s constant vigil. He wrote about it, and the story quickly became a national sensation. People used the story as a symbol of the kind of loyalty they were trying to promote.
Eventually, Hachiko’s popularity grew to the point that a bronze statue was carved in his honour. He was even present at the unveiling in April 1934. It was melted down to aid in the war effort during World War II. But even this couldn’t diminish his fame. After the war, people petitioned for–and were granted–a new statue in Hachiko’s honour.
Hachiko died in 1935. But even today, over 75 years later, it’s no surpise that people choose to meet by the statue of the dog who would always be waiting for his master.
Based on the 1987 Japanese film Hachiko Monogatari, as well as on a true story, Hachiko: A Dog’s Story stars Richard Gere as a college professor who finds an abandoned dog and takes the poor lost animal in. The film follows the two as the man and animal soon form a strong and unexplainable bond.
People seem to identify with Hachiko. He symbolizes so many different things to different people. Hachiko represents innocence, fear, hope, joy, loss and loneliness.”
This movie is great!! Worth watching it!!
I love this movie so much! It’s an most unforgettable movie that i’ve ever seen !
I really like this movie.. Made me cry :’(
One of the best animal stories I have ever seen, just unbelievable how much this dog loved his master and waited for him every day for 9 years after the man passed away. This dog could teach us all about love and loyalty, what a beautiful creature inside and out. I loved it.
The best story that I have ever known in my entire life. I salute you Hachiko for your continuous and undeniable love for Professor Ueno. I am so sad that you have to put up with the pain of having to wait for your master in all those 9 years. I hope you’re already there with him.
You changed me Hachiko. I salute you. :’)
You’re the best dog there is.
I love Hachiko! I watched both movies, the Hachiko Monotagatari and the Hachiko (USA).
In the Japanese version, they really showed how Professor loved Hachi, the bonding time was great. It showed when Hachi detected something’s wrong when Professor was about to leave and died that day. Hachi also wailed during the wake and was able to snap his chain when the Professor’s body is about to be traveled for burial. You can see how Hachi braved the storms, snow and even bitten by other dogs who now lives in his previous master’s house.
What I love about the US version is that the ending was better, you can see how happy Hachi was seeing Professor (richard gere)when he died.
Everytime we watch it, we can’t help by cry. The devotion and loyalty is too much…. trully, they are man’s best friend.

I got to know about Hachi through the movie Hachiko: A dog’s story. From the time I saw the movie I cannot help thinking about Hachi. Everytime I think about him my heart fills with deepest sorrow and pity for the poor dog.
The thought of him not realising that the master will never return really makes me sad and everytime it brings tears in my eyes.
As much as I want not think about it, I end up think all the more about HACHIKO. I sincerely wish I could go and meet this dog and tell him that his master will never return.. I dont know if that would have given him any comfort.
Hachi is the bestest DOG and personifies true friendship and love for me…
I love HACHI and I am sure that like shown in the movie he would have met his master in the other world.
The lesson of this movie is really applicable for all generation that was before,to come and for the future. It shows of being a loyal to people that cares for you. It’s one of the most movie i’ve ever watched that can’t stop my tears falling down. All i can say is we need to be loyal as Hachico’s loyal and waiting for his master’s return though it is impossible yet he pursue to his vision that in one day his master’s will come.

It’s how you bring them up,i love my dogs and any animal in the planet.I hope people stop mistreating animals for real!!! Love you Hachiko, hope you are with your master now, can’t stop thinking about you!!!
I watched this movie the day before yesterday and it made me cry and stay awake in the night. I am still very sad and depressed. It feels like my heart is breaking whenever I think of him waiting there fore his master to return. I have a feeling it would have made life easier for thim if the prof’s wife was more kind to him and thought of his welfare after the prof died. If she treated Hachi with the same loving the prof. showed, and stayed on in the same house, Hachi would not have been so depressed. It was obvious that she did not like him much, but just tolerated for the sake of the husband. Hachi deserved better. The only consolation was the station people loved him and cared for him, so I guess in its own way, Hachi was looked after and was content to wait there.
But it does not make the hurt go away for me. I am really really really sad.
